School Readiness Program
Setting children up for a confident, joyful first day of school, and every day after.
Preparing Children for School Success
We offer a School Readiness Program to help children and families prepare for school. The program is available to children 2.5 to 5 years of age and operates from September to June.
Facilitated by trained and qualified staff, the program provides children with cooperative games, crafts, and outdoor activities, as well as the opportunity to meet new friends in a fun, welcoming environment. A healthy snack is provided daily.
With a little active planning and the right support, parents and educators can work together to truly nurture school readiness in meaningful, lasting ways.

What is School Readiness?
School readiness refers to a child's ability to make a smooth and successful transition into the school environment and its routines and expectations.
These skill expectations include social, language, play, physical, and self-care abilities which, when well established, make learning easier for both teachers and children.
Why does it matter? The basic establishment of readiness skills before entry to school typically affords the child a more successful, confident, and joyful start.
Building Blocks of School Readiness
These nine foundational skills form the basis of a child's ability to thrive in the school environment, academically, socially, and emotionally.
Self-Regulation
The ability to obtain, maintain and change emotion, behaviour, attention and activity level appropriate for a task or situation.
Sensory Processing
Accurate processing of sensory stimulation in the environment and in one's own body, which affects attention, behaviour and learning.
Receptive Language
Comprehension of spoken language, vocabulary, instructions, questions, and concepts, for group instructions and peer interaction.
Expressive Language
Formulating age-appropriate sentences, using specific vocabulary, and telling a simple story with correct grammar and word order.
Articulation
The ability to clearly pronounce individual sounds in words and sentences so others can understand and engage with the child.
Executive Functioning
Higher-order reasoning and thinking skills, planning how to achieve a goal, collecting materials, and overcoming challenges.
Emotional Development
Perceiving and regulating emotions, responding age-appropriately to frustration, and recovering quickly from upsets.
Social Skills
Engaging in reciprocal interaction with others, compromising, and recognizing and following social norms in group settings.
Planning & Sequencing
Sequential, multi-step task performance to achieve a well-defined result, an essential skill for classroom routines.
